The status quo might not be ideal, but if we’re afraid of change, if we focus on the costs of doing the work to make things better, it’s tempting to simply stay still.
And the real fears of change are that it might work (which is scary) and that it might not work (which is heartbreaking).

This ignores the actions of those who benefit from the status quo. They actively persecute dissenters, propagandise for the status quo, and, sometimes, use lethal means to suppress dissent.
This explains the increase criminalisation of protests with increase prison terms, fines, and breadth of offences. Those who loudly proclaim their freedom of speech and right not to wear masks, are remarkably silent on this trend.
