IN July and August, 58 mostly young people participated in the first Australia-Venezuela Solidarity Brigade. Their mission: to experience firsthand the inspiration of the first people’s power revolution of the 21st century, and to bring home its message of hope, solidarity and humanity. I think it was good that the younger comrades in the Party got a chance to see a real revolution up close and personal rather than just read about it in books. From the informal feedback so far, I gather that they have come back bursting with ideas from talking to the ordinary people are making this revolution happen.

Contrary to what most people think, revolution is not about street battles and barricades - it is about getting people to see that a different is possible through their own efforts.

The Venezueleans were very proud of what they had achieved. Before the revolution, they were told that they were ignorant peasants, but now they were changing society.

To do what others say is impossible is heady stuff indeed.
