Eduardo Miguel Álvarez Estévez: Cuba: Where is the Russian oil? The truth that Moscow silences

Eduardo Miguel Álvarez Estévez discusses Cuba: Where is the Russian oil? The truth that Moscow silences (translated by Jackson Remple).

The uncomfortable truth as to why Russia is not forcing the US oil blockade of Cuba is that:

As far as Russia is concerned, Cuba is a pawn on the geopolitical chessboard. It is a means of applying pressure on Washington. A base for strategic bombers. An anti-imperialist symbol that helps Russia gain prestige in the Global South. But it is not a vital priority for Russia. It is not Ukraine. It is not the Arctic. It is not on Russia’s immediate border.

When the going gets tough, Moscow chooses its battles. And the battle to supply oil to Cuba is not on its list of priorities.

Emphasis Mine

As Henry Kissinger once said, "Great nations do not have friends, only interests." Cuba found this out before with the Cuban Missile Crisis and the collapse of the USSR.

Although the US oil blockade of Cuba strengthens the American geopolitical position within the Western Hemisphere, the long term trajectory is to weaken the USD system as nations wake up to the inherent coercive power the USA has with the USD sytem.

Uncle Sam and a Russian Bear are at a chess board overlaying the Gulf of Mexico. One of the pawns on the board is labeled 'Cuba'. Another pawn, with the label 'Venezuela' is lying down off the board.
